Prevention and Response Strategies

Effective natural hazard management and disaster risk reduction (NH/DRR) strategies may help mitigate the impact of global climatic change.

  1. NH/DRR may reduce the harm caused by natural disasters and enhance the ability of societies to respond and recover.
  2. NH/DRR strategies are vital for designing preventive measures, adding to society’s capacity to adapt to the changing climate (Few, et al. 2006).
  3. NH/DRR strategies may aid efforts in disadvantaged communities to alleviate poverty, rendering positive effects on global security, stability and sustainability (ISDR 2009a).
